Tara Stock, DPM
Physician and Surgeon
of the
Foot and Ankle
Dr. Tara Stock, DPM, was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Billy Joel, American musician and pianist, singer-songwriter and classical composer, wrote a famous song about her town, also called Allentown. It tells the story of the demise of the steel industry, the very tough times for the workers, but their grit and determination to come through “on the other side” stronger and more stouthearted for having faced and overcome the challenge.
And we are so familiar with those Pittsburgh Steelers, a testament to the grit and determination of this area’s people. The Pittsburgh Steelers are the oldest football franchise in the National Football League (NFL). T...
This is the environment in which Dr. Stock grew up-amongst the very people Billy Joel talked about in his song-struggling to find new, innovative ways to make a living-and those Pittsburgh Steelers, who represent the hardiness of a people who can’t be beaten. Growing up in the Lehigh Valley (population less than 6,000 people in her town of Lehighton) Dr. Stock learned lessons that nothing but experience could teach her: Strong work ethic, compassion for others, and honesty in all things.
After high school Dr. Stock attended Moravian College on a full scholarship, where her grades earned her a spot in the Honor Society Tri Beta. She also enjoyed intramural sports, including football and softball. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in 2004 at the top of her class and proceeded on to Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia. She continued to study hard, but believing that an educated mind must be supported by a strong body, she continued to play sports and spent her free time with the Sports Medicine Club and Wound Care Club. Dr. Stock graduated from Temple in May 2008 as a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine.
In the summer of 2008 Dr. Stock moved to Detroit to begin her residency at Kern Southeast Michigan Surgical Hospital. During her three years of residency she completed extensive training in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, as well as multi-discipline rotations under the care of Residency Director, Dr. Kyle Sunblad, DPM.
Dr. Dr. Stock enjoys sports medicine and reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle. Her professional memberships include the American Podiatric Medical Association, the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association, and the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. She enjoys sports such as skiing and running. In 2010 she competed in two triathlons: St. Anthony’s Triathlon in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the Island Lake Triathlon in Brighton, Michigan. These events are grueling, but allow Dr. Stock the opportunity to push herself beyond even her own expectations. She applies the lessons she learns here-the importance of preparation, discipline and endurance-to her practice of medicine.
To round out her sense of mind-body-spirit, Dr. Stock also practices yoga to ensure she maintains equanimity in her life and work. She looks forward to serving people in the Metro Detroit area, providing that small-town touch to big-city people.
