Doctor Is In: Bunions, Hammertoes and Foot Deformities
November 18, 2019 – In an interview with NBC 8 in Tampa, Florida, Dr. Stephen Levin at New Tampa Foot & Ankle in Wesley Chapel, Florida shared an X-ray image of a patient’s foot before and after Lapiplasty ® 3D Bunion Correction™. Using before and after xray images, Dr Levin notes that the Lapiplasty® Procedure is designed to “swivel the bone back over” and realign the sesamoid bones – the bones you use when you pivot on the bottom of your feet.
In terms of recovery expectations, Dr. Levin said that with this “newer technique,” patients can walk in a CAM boot walker within “two to three weeks, which can be a definite advantage over having to wait six to 8 weeks.”1
Dr. Levin also said that with “Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction™” the odds of bunions returning are “very, very slim.”2 He noted that recurrence rates are higher with different procedures.3 Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction™ is “more reproducible and gives you a more fixed correction and a more precise correction. That way we have better confidence it won’t come back.”
