Major breakthrough for a common bone deformity

November 20, 2019 – In an interview with CBS 47 in St. Augustine, Florida, Dr. Kurtis Hort’s patient Jenna Jones (a marathon runner) described how she had had a previous, failed bunion surgery.

With one surgery under her belt and no relief, Jones had given up — until she met Dr. Hort of Orthopaedic Associates of St. Augustine who uses special titanium plates [Lapiplasty® System] to restabilize and secure the joint responsible for causing the bunion.

Action News Jax reporter Meghan Moriarty reports that 30 percent of women in the United States have a bone deformity on their foot, otherwise known as a bunion. And, up to 70 percent of patients say their bunions returned after having traditional bunion surgical procedures.1 Dr. Hort performed Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction on Jones in July. He said “Technically, it went about as well as it can go. And sometimes that’s hard in redo situations because the bones have been cut. They’re not exactly normal.”

Jones says she finally feels “normal” and plans on signing up for a marathon and training hard.
